Volvo LIGHTS Innovation Showcase

Volvo Trucks hosted its Volvo LIGHTS project partners, fleet customers, public agencies, community leaders, and media at a launch event for Volvo’s VNR electric pilot truck at TEC Equipment Fontana and the Auto Club Speedway. To kick off the day, Volvo Group executives shared how the company is leveraging unique industry partnerships and investing in innovative vehicle technologies to transform the way we transport goods in our urban centers and meet the ever-evolving needs of its customers. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a range of breakout sessions to understand the full eco-system that Volvo Group is developing with its Volvo LIGHTS partners to successfully commercialize battery-electric freight trucks. Sessions included:

  • Tackling Unique Charging Challenges for Fleets of Battery Electric Yard Tractors & Heavy-Duty Trucks
  • Preparing to Retail, Service and Support Electric Truck Technology
  • A Spotlight on the Community Benefits Offered by BEVs

The highlight for many attendees was seeing the pilot Volvo VNR electric truck in action at the Autoclub Speedway—a select set of attendees even had the opportunity to drive the truck! There was also a battery electric yard truck from Orange EV and two forklifts from Yale on display, providing attendees with hands-on access to technology that will enable warehouse facilities to reduce emissions and noise pollution.

Featured event speakers included:

  • Martin Lundstedt, President & CEO, Volvo Group
  • Janice Rutherford, Board Member, South Coast Air Quality Management District
  • Lars Stenqvist, Executive Vice President, Volvo Group Trucks Technology
