Southern California will soon see the deployment of electric rigs, produced by Volvo Trucks North America in partnership with 15 stakeholders, with some of the funding coming from the California Air Resources Board.
The first Volvo VNR Electric regional haul tractor was unveiled in September at a media event at Volvo’s New River Valley facility in Dublin, Va., where all Volvo trucks sold in North America are built.

The trucks replace two diesel yard trucks and bring the terminal, which is used by the company’s less-than-truckload division Dependable Highway Express, closer to its goal of creating a sustainable, zero-emission facility.

Truck manufacturer Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) announced a full battery electric version of the company’s VNR model will go on sale by the end of 2020. The announcement was made by VTNA President Peter Voorhoeve at a press conference during the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition in San Diego.
